Writer: Bella 3D Imaging & CoachingBella 3D Imaging & Coaching

Congratulations, you're pregnant! And you're embarking on this adventure, but don’t know what to expect. You may feel restricted and can’t seem to hop off of the internet because you are seeking answers on all of the do’s and don’ts of pregnancy. Being pregnant includes a lot of challenges and anticipating, and let’s face it, it also includes boredom and fatigue. There are days you may feel restless, and that’s okay.  Use this as your guide to help educate you on the importance of staying distracted and maintaining a positive mindset throughout the 40 weeks you are expecting. A little distraction and self-care techniques never hurt nobody!

Staying engaged and active throughout your pregnancy can not only keep you entertained and help time move along, but also it can also contribute to your overall well-being while preparing you for motherhood. So, let's explore some awesome ways to make the most of this special time:

Get moving (but gently)!

Exercise is essential during pregnancy, offering a plethora of benefits for both you and your baby. But ditch the high-intensity workouts and embrace gentler activities. For example:

prenatal yoga

  • Prenatal yoga or Pilates: These low-impact exercises improve flexibility, strengthen your core, and promote relaxation.

  • Swimming: The buoyancy of water takes the pressure off your joints while providing a full-body workout.

  • Brisk walking: A simple yet effective way to stay active and enjoy the fresh air.

  • Dancing: Put on your favorite tunes and shake it out (or bump it out;) !! Dancing is a fun way to get your heart rate up and boost your mood.

Fuel your curiosity!

Pregnancy is the perfect time to learn something new. Here are some ideas:

  • Take an online course: There are countless online courses on everything from parenting tips to photography skills.

  • Read books on pregnancy, childbirth, or baby care: Knowledge is power, but only if you know how to apply it and being informed can help you feel more confident and prepared.

  • Learn a new language: This is a great way to challenge yourself and expand your horizons. (I personally enjoy DuoLingo)

  • Pick up a hobby: Painting, writing, playing an instrument - rediscover your creative side or try something completely new.

Connect with your loved ones!

Pregnancy is a time to lean on your support system. Here are some ways to spend quality time with the people you love:

movie night

  • Go for walks or picnics with friends and family.

  • Have game nights or movie nights at home.

  • Join a pregnancy support group: Connecting with other expectant mothers can be a great source of comfort and advice.

  • Plan a baby shower: Celebrate your upcoming arrival with a fun gathering of your loved ones.

Practice relaxation techniques!

Taking time for yourself is crucial during pregnancy. Here are some ways to de-stress and unwind:

prenatal massage and spa

  • Meditation: There are many guided meditations specifically designed for pregnant women. Amazon has countless audiobooks that provide self-meditation techniques.

  • Deep breathing exercises: Focus on your breath to calm your mind and body. Be sure to allow your exhales to be longer than your inhales. This helps reduce angst.

  • Prenatal massage: A soothing massage can help relieve tension and promote relaxation.

  • Spend time in nature: Take a walk in the park, listen to the birds singing, or simply sit outside and enjoy the fresh air. Vitamin C is always good for the soul; pregnant or not.

Don't forget to rest!

Pregnancy is a time for your body to grow and change, so don't underestimate the importance of rest. Listen to your body and take breaks whenever you need them. Here are some tips:

woman resting

  • Get enough sleep: Aim for 7-9 hours of sleep per night.

  • Take naps during the day: Don't feel guilty about catching some Z’s in the afternoon. If your body is telling you that its tired, listen and take a break.

  • Delegate tasks: Don't be afraid to ask for help from your partner, family, or friends. Ask and accept help. Now is the time to do so.

  • Put your feet up: Relax and enjoy some quiet time for yourself. Make this a priority and stay consistent in doing so.

Prepare for your little one's arrival!

Getting organized and nesting can be a fun and productive way to stay engaged during pregnancy. Here are some things you can do:

animal nursery

  • Set up the nursery: Decorate the room, assemble furniture, and choose cute baby clothes and toys.

  • Stock up on baby essentials: Diapers, wipes, clothes, feeding supplies - make sure you have everything you need for your newborn.

  • Take a childbirth education class: Learn about the birthing process and different pain management techniques.

  • Pack your hospital bag: Be prepared for your labor and delivery with all the essentials you'll need.

Remember, there's no right or wrong way with how you choose to spend your pregnancy. Finding effective, but beneficial ways to stay distracted during pregnancy is key to bumping along in the healthiest way possible. The most important thing is to listen to your body, do what feels good for you, and enjoy this special time as you see fit. By staying active, engaged, and relaxed, you'll be well on your way to a happy and healthy pregnancy and soon enough, delivery. But don't forget to have fun! This is a pivotal, lifetime experience, so savor every moment of it. Nine months can be long, but these ways of staying distracted for the betterment of your health can help you make the most of your time being pregnant.  Don’t be afraid to ask for help and if you need someone to talk to, be sure to check out Bella 3D Imaging & Coaching where around the clock services are provided.
